Healthier nation by washing away the stress

www.gdaguru.com today reports that recent research from Mira has uncovered that using a solitary space, and the physical act of washing away the stresses of the day has a positive effect on us and shifts our mental state. 25-08-2010

With people more stressed than ever by work, 40% of Brits use a shower to de-stress after a day at work and 64% use the space to improve their mood.

The findings also reveal that the best way to change mood in a flash is to shower. Just over two thirds of people find their mood alters after they’ve drenched themselves, with:

•         54% changing their  shower gel to help;
•         58% increasing the power of the spray;
•         and  49% changing the temperature.

Ian Lynch of the Happiness Project commented on the research: “The way we start and finish the day can have a huge impact on our levels of happiness and well-being. The shower offers us a great mini-meditation in setting ourselves up for greater levels of energy and some much needed relaxation, as well as washing the blues and the dirt away.

Recent research shows that 51% of people are working longer hours than five years ago; and 16.7% of British workers believe their jobs are extremely or very stressful. Having a space such as the shower gives us a place to think about how we wish to be, and to feel our self in our body, with 60% of the human body made of water we feel a strong connection with water which is why the shower is a great place to initiate a mind shift and take away the day’s stress.

Ian Lynch of the Happiness Project gives his  five tips for happiness:

∙         You Are Already Happy! Decide to be happy and you will be happy now. Give yourself a daily treat that puts a smile on your face
∙         Follow Your Joy If you love what you do, you will be happy. Identify 3 things you enjoy about your work and make them a priority
