Fewer sugary drinks could reduce blood pressure

www.gdaguru.com today reports that drinking fewer sugary drinks may help lower blood pressure, according to a new study from the American Heart Association, adding to a growing body of evidence linking reduced soft drink intake with better health. 30-05-2010

In a story from www.foodnavigator-usa.com, researchers found that overweight adults with high blood pressure who drank one fewer serving of sugary soft drinks per day had significantly lower blood pressure after 18 months.

Previous research has linked high consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages to increased risk of obesity, type-2 diabetes, and metabolic syndrome, the authors said.
 
The lead author said: "Although this study was conducted among mostly overweight adults and many with hypertension, we believe that others will benefit by reducing the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages.
