New Atkins for a New You publishes March 2010


In March, Vermilion publishes New Atkins for a New You - a streamlined version of the classic Atkins diet that is fully updated and written by three US doctors specialising in nutritional science, New Atkins for a New You claims to ‘help you slim down quickly and stay there, address certain health problems and boost your energy.’

Since its US release in 1972 the Atkins diet has found millions of followers. Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution was first published by Vermilion 1999 and has since sold over 2 million copies.

New Atkins for a New You stresses that the Atkins diet is not about eating only beef, bacon and butter. Rather it is about finding out how many carbohydrates you can tolerate and making good choices.

Key changes to the original Atkins programme include:

• a daily requirement of a substantial amount of high-fibre vegetables

• tips on how to reduce or eliminate symptoms that sometimes accompany the initial conversion to a low-carb diet

• the ability to tailor the program to individual needs, including variations for vegetarians and vegans

• ways to smooth the transition from one phase to the next, ensuring the gradual and natural adoption of healthy, permanent eating habits

• the inclusion of small quantities of caffeine

• tips on how to maintain the diet when away from home and out at restaurants


New Atkins for a New You is divided into four sections:

• Part 1: WHY IT WORKS: IT'S ALL ABOUT NUTRITION outlines the basics of the Atkins philosophy. It explains that the key to quickly and effectively slimming down and enhancing your health is to train your body to burn more fat by cutting back on sugars and other refined carbohydrates and allowing fat – including your own body fat – to become your primary source of energy. • Part 4: A DIET FOR LIFE: THE SCIENCE OF GOOD HEALTH  teaches you how Atkins can improve cardiovascular risk factors, reverse metabolic syndrome (prediabetes) and manage diabetes.
